Hemiepiphyseodesis

             If growth ofofone side of the physis (growth plate) is temporarily stopped the opposite side will continue growing and deformity will correct. This can be achieved either will staples or more commonly small plates and screws (‘8’ plates). This surgery can be performed through small 2-3cm wounds and has the advantage that patients can walk straight afterwards. Surgery is done either as a daycase or overnight stay. This operation is only applicable whilst growth plates are open.
