Under general anaesthetic and X ray control a screw is placed across the growth plate to stabilise it. This is done through a small (1cm) incision on the side of the thigh. Surgery takes approximately 20-25 minutes and most patients will be discharged home either the same or next day. Patients need to partial weight bear with crutches for 6 weeks and should not return to sport for 3 months. This technique is simple and carries little risk. The results are very good for mild (grade I ) slips.
